Art Department

La Portella Private Primary Art School accepts children for Primary I in the Art Department. The duration of the studies is 8 years. Children as young as 7 years old can enter the preparatory group, and 8 years old can enter the first year. For the first four years, children take 3 classes of 45 minutes consecutively, 1 time per week. After four years they progress to lower secondary education and the teaching remains the same. However, the content of the lessons gradually changes, according to the curriculum and in accordance with your child’s growth and development.
Children with no previous experience in art as well as those who have already been educated in this field through private lessons or an educational institution can enrol. They will be further enrolled depending on their age and needs so as to progress further.

Objectives

Art education combines the components of emotional and intellectual education. It introduces the child into the space of artistic creation, which is a complex way of getting to know the world. The aim of such cognition is the development of the uniqueness of the child’s personality, which is directed towards the development of his relationship to the world and his place in it. It is the direction towards building one’s own ideas, towards creating one’s own creative solutions and expressing one’s own opinion. It opens up possibilities for the pupil to join a cultural tradition at the level of contemporary thinking. The main goal is to educate for creativity. We take the view that the principles of creativity are common to all human activities. The result is the child’s spontaneous interest in artistic self-expression. In proportion to the developmental structuring of children’s cognition, art education also involves a rational component in creative processes: the analysis of the means, methods and meaning of creation.
